Back in the 1700s by comparison most people didn't even venture a few miles outside of their local village. Were we 21st century humans to be transported back to the 18th century we'd likely be bored to tears within the space of a day or two. Really. I do find it a heart-warming scene, even acknowledging there may be certain social problems highlighted.
