Roto-toms: a genius musical invention and one I sought after for many years only to have a neighbour here in Helsinki knock on my door one day and hand me an original early issue set of the three highest pitched sizes: 6'', 8'', 10'' - leaving me now seeking after the lower pitched 12'', 14'', and 16''. They're selling for big money over stateside at the moment and the set I have (original blackened steel rims) are averaging around $650 second hand.

There are newer copies available by other companies that are far cheaper but the difference is in the sound. The steel rims have a far wider range of exacting tones and they can be pitched on the turn of a dime by simply turning the rims clockwise and anti-clockwise. I often use just the 6'' one as an auxiliary add-on on a regular drum-set. It expands all the possibilities and always sounds fabulous even though I boot it around the place and store it with the hardware rather than in a drum-case.

If I can get my hands on the larger roto-toms I'd happily pay up to €800/900, but they're hard to find.
